Sounds as if they might be Springtails. Can't be sure without a photo, however the description fits ;)

These can be normal much as mites can be in some worm bins if conditions are favorable. They are simply there assisting in decomposing.

One way to determine if they are springtails is if they jump when disturbed as they have a little mechanism under the belly that enables them to jump.

I found a picture of the springtails online

Hope this helps to identify them.

They look like tiny worms all curled up. I took one and put it on the table and it started to walk off. They have two small antennas also. Bin is about a month old.

It is really tough to try and guess what they are. Anyway you can post a photo for us to view?

Here is a picture I hope! Looks like little centipedes when I really look hard. These little guys are about an 1/8" wide and 1/2 inch long. Curl up when touched..

I believe you are on the right track, but perhaps more in the millipede family, but not sure.

Try going to http://bugguide.net and there is a link for identification request. Try that as I looked on there site but was unable to locate a good match.

Let us know when you find out... could be interesting.

How are the worms doing, OK?

From what little I know it looks like a millepede to me also. They feed on dead and decaying matter also and only worry I can find might be that they will compete for food with your worms. Only other thing was a person can have an alergic reaction to a substance they sometimes excrete, depending on species of course.

Is this an outdoor or indoor bin?

Bruce Worms seem to be doing fine. I posted a pic on the bug site and still waiting on a definate ID. I have been thinking of setting up some breeder night crawlers. My only problem is my wife likes the house cold 60 - 65 Brrr. I don't know how they would do. Of course I have the same problem with the wigglers. Would I be better off with Eoropean over African do to the temps? I am just down the road from you. Would like to come by and pick some up if I decide to do them. I am in Oconee county.

Since the worms are doing well it appears that the other white "millipedes???" are not predators :D

With those temperatures, the African nightcrawlers could be difficult to raise as well as would not be very prolific. I would recommend the European nightcrawlers as they do not require as much heat and could do very well under the current conditions you mention.

Just give me a heads up so as I can arrange to meet up with you when you are ready!
